Pharoah Hounds are an ancient breed that originated in Egypt. They typically weigh between 45 to 55 pounds. They love their own people, have an immense joy for life, and happily entertain them with their clownish antics, and even have the ability to ‘blush’. While he's too friendly to serve as a guard dog, the Pharaoh Hound will bark to alert you to anyone or anything that seems suspicious.

 

Common Health Conditions

  • Pharaoh Hounds are are typically healthy, but they have the potential to develop some genetic health conditions, including congestive heart disease. This is often caused by mitral valve insufficiency, or dilated cardiomyopathy. This affects your dog’s ability to pump adequate blood to the body,
  • Pharaoh Hounds can be prone to dry, flaky skin, especially during the colder winter months.
  • Some Pharaoh Hounds develop food or skin allergies. They can also develop stomach and intestinal disorders.
