Samoyeds are fluffy, white dogs that typically weigh between 50 to 60 pounds. They have a thick coat, and beautiful curled tail. The hardy and sweet-tempered Samoyed was originally used to hunt, herd reindeer, and haul sledges for the Siberian Samoyede people. They are intelligent, gentle, aand loyal family dogs who thrive on being part of the family. Samoyeds are very activie, so they require daily exercise, and a lot of love and attention.

Common Health Conditions

  • Inherited kidney disease can cause uncomfortable side effects for Samoyeds.
  • Diabetes mellitus is a fairly common disease in dogs. Any breed can be affected, but Sammies have an above average chance of being affected.
  • Your Sammie is susceptible to different kinds of skin infections and diseases. One of them is caused by yeast (Malassezia dermatitis). When it infects the ears, it causes itching, redness, and an accumulation of brown waxy discharge.
