Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Overview

Dandie Dinmont Terriers are independent, bold, friendly, and playful. With people they know, they're affectionate yet dignified but tend to be reserved with strangers. They have a large head covered with silky white hair, long feathery hanging ears, and big round eyes. They are not as hyperactive as other small breeds, but carry the terrier attitude. They are alert watchdogs and tend to bond to one person.

Common Health Conditions

  • All kinds of worms and bugs can invade your Dandie's body, inside and out. Everything from fleas and ticks to ear mites can infest her skin and ears.
  • Dandie Dinmont Terriers are susceptible to bacterial and viral infections — the same ones that all dogs can get — such as parvo, rabies, and distemper.
  • A rare few Dandie Dinmont Terriers develop lymphoma, but otherwise the breed is typically quite healthy.
