Löwchen

Overview

The Löwchen originated during the 15th century in Europe. They also known as the “little lion dog”, They were originally bred as a companion dog and continue to serve this purpose today. They are playful and calm dogs and they have an outgoing and friendly disposition. They are cuddle bugs who love to curl up with someone they love. Löwchens enjoy being outdoors and they are highly trainable, making them an excellent choice for first time dog owners.

Common Health Conditions

  • The main health problem in Lowchen is chronic allergies that cause terribly itchy skin. Their constant scratching can break the skin, leading to bacterial infections (hot spots).
  • Löwchens are susceptible to bacterial and viral infections such as parvo, rabies, and distemper.
  • Diabetes mellitus is a common disease in dogs and the Lowchen have an above average chance of developing the disorder.
