French Bulldogs are smart and fun-loving dogs who wants and needs to spend lots of time with his people. They are fun loving, free-thinkers, and take well to training when it's done in a positive manner with lots of food rewards and incentives. Frenchies can be characterized by their bat-like ears, compact muscular build and a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colours. Just be prepared for the snort, snuffle, wheeze, grunt, and snoring.
Common Health Conditions
- The short face can make their breathing less efficient than that of long-nosed breeds, so Frenchies have less tolerance of heat, exercise, and stress - all of which increase their need to breathe.
- Like other dwarf breeds, the stocky French Bulldog may also have abnormal vertebrae and/or premature degeneration of the intervertebral disc
- French Bulldogs have various skin problems, which can be caused by either an allergic or bacterial infection. Hot spots are acute moist dermatitis, which is often experienced by breeds with short hair. This can cause an area of skin to become inflamed and infected, resulting in a reddened area that is uncomfortable and very itchy.
