Tiffanie

Overview

Meet the Tiffanie cat, a cat who is equal part beauty and brains. Bred in the 1980s by a British baroness, this cutie is actually the result of a cross-breeding between a Burmese and a Persian cat, hence its other name “Asian cat,” a nod to the Asian roots of its ancestors. A cat of many names, the Tiffanie is also sometimes known as the Asian Semi-longhair, owing to its impressive fur. With an interesting but recent history in the cat world, this fluffy feline with a regal background is a niche but already well-loved around the world. Fun fact: both the Tiffanie and the Malayan cat are technically the same breed, but only the Tiffanie cat carries the gene needed for long fur. This silky fur is not only a sight to behold, but it’s also pretty unique in the world of cats due to the fact that Tiffanies don’t have an undercoat! This can make them suitable for people who like the look of longhaired cats but can’t spend every day maintaining their fur - just a thorough brush a couple of times a week will make this special cat’s fur healthy and free of tangles.

Hairballs:

Like other breeds with long hair, the Tiffanie cat may get the occasional hairball. Hairballs can lead to discomfort, disrupt their normal digestion, get too large to pass through, and even get stuck in their digestive tract. Regular grooming and the right supplements can help them feel their best.

Personality

Personality

It's not just their looks that make them stand out; this Asian cat is renowned for its playful, social, and clever personality. These traits make regular playtime and engaging enrichment a must. And forget about shy cats that hide under the bed when there are guests, the Tiffanie cat is not shy and will be front and center to greet new people. While they love to socialize, play, and explore, they will happily curl up beside you after a day of adventure, but don’t expect a total lap cat. These beauties enjoy a bit of independence too and often want to surveil their kingdom from a high lookout point. These fluff balls are also very clever, and training a Tiffanie is possible so long as you are patient - and have a lot of treats in hand! If you're ready to invest a little time into their grooming, this breed rewards you with a loyal, loving companion that greets you with happy chirps anytime it wants your attention.
