FAQ
Is blood in dog urine an emergency?
Yes, it is an emergency that requires immediate medical attention. Your pet should be taken to the vet within 24 hours to rule out any serious health concerns. If there is blood in your furkiddo’s urine, this is caused by inflammation, a blockage or an infection either in the upper urinary tract (kidneys and ureters) or the lower urinary tract (bladder and urethra).
What food causes bladder stones in dogs?
Foods that are high in protein, such as animal flesh and animal fats may increase the risk of bladder stones in dogs. Foods high in oxalates such as wheat germ, sweet potatoes, beans and soy products, may increase stone formation and should be avoided. A well-balanced diet, low in fat will help prevent bladder stones. Also avoid feeding your pet human food and junkfood, which can put them at a higher risk as well.
What is cystitis in cats?
Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC for short) is a common cause of feline lower urinary tract disease in younger cats; it relates to the way that a kitty deals with stress. A similar analogy would be humans that get upset tummies from stress. Akin to humans, some kitties get an upset bladder from stress. Not every cat is prone to FIC. Some kitties are just wired differently and this is how stress expresses itself in their body.
