What is Skin Cancer?
Skin cancer is an abnormal growth of cells on the skin, often due to sun exposure, but skin cancer may also develop on areas of skin not exposed to the sun. The three main types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
Support for Carcinoma and Melanoma in Dogs and Cats
Skin cancer may sound scary but it doesn’t necessarily mean a death sentence for your furkiddo. Surgery, chemotherapy, and nutrient therapy can all be used to maintain and help improve their quality of life.
If cells are accumulating into an abnormal mass, your pet's liver is likely under-functioning and their immune system is weakened. Some purebred dogs and cats are more likely to form skin tumors, but they can develop in an animal of any age or breed. Combined with genetics, environmental factors like sun exposure and infection could make your pet more susceptible to forming skin tumors.
If you notice a mass on your dog or cat’s skin, keep an eye on it and if it grows or changes rapidly, book an appointment immediately with your vet to do a biopsy and examine it for cancer.
How NHV Remedies Support Detoxification and Immune Health
Skin tumors can cause severe discomfort for your four-legged companion. ES Clear, Milk Thistle and Turmeric all have many beneficial properties when taken on their own but when combined, they work together to support healthy elimination and increased immune function.
ES CLEAR

Additional Info: Light colored pets or furkiddos with white fur have less protection from the sun’s harmful rays and may be at a greater risk for developing skin cancer. Hairless or short-coated pets are also vulnerable to the sun’s rays. We recommend limiting your pet’s sun exposure especially if they have a short coat or light fur color.

You can also use the dropper and squirt directly into the pet’s mouth. Some pets can be finicky, if this occurs consider hiding the drops in foods most pet’s love such as fish, chicken or yogurt or a favorite treat. If your pet only eats dry food then soak a few kibbles at feeding time.

FAQ
What causes mast cell tumors in dogs?
There is no definitive cause for this type of cancer but genetics and diet certainly play a role. Mast cell tumors in dogs may be one of the most common skin cancers in dogs along with melanoma in dogs.
If my pet is not eating how do I give them the supplements?
If your pet isn’t eating, you can administer their dosage directly by mouth but we recommend mixing it with something yummy and irresistible for your pet like our homemade bone broth so the herbs are a little easier on their stomach.
Can cats get skin cancer?
Yes they can. But keeping their vaccines up to date, feeding them a balanced diet, maintaining good air quality (no cigarette smoke indoors), and limiting sun exposure are all ways to help prevent skin cancer from developing in your cat. Also keep in mind that light colored or white kitties and hairless kitties have a higher chance of burning when exposed to the sun.
