Holistic Support and Supplements for All Pet Birds
Many pet birds are extremely intelligent and sensitive, so with the addition of other birds, loud sounds, loneliness or lack of stimulation, your bird may become stressed out, especially birds like Cockatoos, African Grays, and other species of parrots. Their heart rate and blood pressure may increase, and they may become irritated, excitable, and display behavior like feather picking, or screaming. Matricalm contains five calming herbs that help to reduce anxiety, increase feelings of relaxation and discourage behavioral issues related to a stressed-out nervous system.
Our all-natural care products are palatable for all types of birds, whether you have a cockatoo, a budgie, a canary, or any kind of parrot. Our liquid formulations make them easy to hide in a favorite treat or daily meals.
How NHV Matricalm Helps Support A Relaxed Pet
Stress and anxiety may have detrimental effects on your bird's body and cause a lot of discomfort. Ingredients like chamomile and lemon balm can help calm excitability, nervousness and relieve discomfort. The sedative properties in Matricalm help to expel intestinal gas and help lower blood pressure to support feelings of calmness. Herbs like passion flower promote feelings of relaxation by increasing levels of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, while valerian helps to improve sleep latency and sleep quality. Hops adds diuretic and sedative support to help relieve sleep disturbances and improve mood.

FAQ
Do birds get stressed out?
Yes. Just like humans, birds can get sick and experience stress. It can be difficult to tell if your pet bird is stressed or unhappy because they may hide their feelings in the beginning until things get much worse.
Can birds get depressed?
Yes. Like humans, birds can experience depression and sadness when left alone for too long, understimulated or stressed out.
What do birds do when stressed?
When birds are stressed, common signs are:
- Biting
- Screaming
- Changes in vocalizations
- Self-mutilation
- Stress bars
- Low appetite
Can birds lose feathers from stress?
Yes, birds that are stressed may pick at their feathers and self-mutilate. Feather picking is a fairly common outward display of stress and boredom, especially in Eclectus parrots, cockatoos, and African gray parrots, but can also occur in smaller birds, such as Quaker parrots and lovebirds. Sometimes the picking may begin from an initial change in their environments like loud construction noises or traffic but may continue even after the trigger has been taken away. If left untreated, feather picking may become self-mutilation where a bird starts to bite at their skin and feet. We recommend booking an appointment with your vet to see if there are any underlying causes or illnesses.
What do stress bars on birds look like?
These are lines that run horizontally through a feather that may point to an imbalanced diet, excess stress, or health issues present when the feather was growing. Stress bars in adult birds should be taken seriously.
