Boykin Spaniel

Boykin Spaniels are only slightly larger than the English Cocker Spaniel. Friendly, eager to please, and natural born hunters. Keep them happy by letting them romp and play in the water, or going on a weekend trip boating or hiking. They typically weigh between 25 to 40 pounds, have cascading floppy ears, and a brilliant golden coat that comes in various shades of brown. They are alert, self-confident, and smart, all of which make they an excellent family companion as well. Boykins do well with other animals and children.

Common Health Conditions

  • Concerns for Boykin Spaniels are glandular disorders such as Cushing’s and Addison’s disease.
  • Hypothyroidism is an underactive thyroid gland. Symptoms include chronic ear infections, bacterial infections of the skin, hair loss, lethargy, and depression. This condition is most commonly treated with medication and diet.
  • Liver disease can happen as a result of aging, genetics, or infection. Some diseases and medications can hurt your dog's liver. This organ is vital to your Boykin Spaniel’s health.
