Sloughi

Overview

The ancient Sloughi, nicknamed the “Arabian Greyhound,” is a lean, swift coursing hound who hunted a variety of game in North African deserts. Like most sightsounds, they have a strong prey drive. Sloughi’s have a long, wedge-shaped head, small drop ears, and a bony body covered with strong, lean muscles. It is important to take them for daily walks or runs, as they have high levels of energy and strong hunting instincts.

Common Health Conditions

  • Immune-deficiency diseases in dogs can be quite severe and pose a great deal of health issues. These diseases put the body’s defenses against any infection at high risk.
  • Muskoskeletal injuries (fractures, pulled muscles or ligaments, broken toes, paw injuries, etc.) are common when Sloughis romp, jump, and play.
  • Endocrine system diseases in Sloughi’s include Addison's disease and Cushing’s disease. Adrenal gland dysfunction occurs when the adrenal glands produce too many or too few hormones, affecting many basic body functions including blood pressure, heart rate, and glucose levels.
