Spanish Water Dog

Overview

This breed was primarily developed as herding dogs in Spain. They typically weigh between 30 to 50 pounds. Spanish Water dogs are very smart, with a strong work ethic. He likes to learn, responding best to positive reinforcement. Their curly coat is easy to maintain and they enjoy swimming or playing in the water, and are loyal and affectionate members of the family.

 

Common Health Conditions

  • Just like humans, cats and dogs can suffer from seasonal and environmental allergies, resulting in some unpleasant itching and scratching.
  • Like other water dogs and related breeds, Spanish Water dogs can grow hair in their ear canals and be prone to ear infections. Ensure their ears are kept clean and dry.
  • Spanish Water dogs may be prone to health problems like cruciate ligament ruptures. This is the most common cause of rear-leg lameness in dogs and a major cause of degenerative joint disease.
