Golden Retrievers were originally bred as hunting companions and, as the name suggests, to retrieve. The golden retriever is one of the most popular dog breeds. They are loyal family pets who are eager to please and trust worthy. They are quite intelligent and happy to learn. Golden retrievers can be recognized by their long, golden coat.
Common Health Conditions
- Golden retrievers seem to be prone to hypothyroidism, or under-active thyroid. This hormonal imbalance can lead to weight gain, hair loss lethargy and more.
- Golden retrievers have a relatively high rate of cancer. This can range from mast cell tumors to osteosarcomas
- Hip and elbow dysplasia is a common concern in golden retrievers and can start to become a problem even at a young age.
