All-Natural Heart Supplements for Dogs and Cats
No one wants to hear that their beloved pet has a heart condition. But not to worry, if caught early, pet parents can get on top of symptoms and keep their furkiddo’s energy levels up!
Sadly for many of our beloved pets, congestive heart failure is something they may experience in their lifetime. A variety of health issues (like Cushing’s disease, hypothyroidism, or hypertension, to name a few) may be contributing factors in the worsening of their cardiovascular health. If your furkiddo is coughing or having difficulty breathing (especially when lying down), is lethargic, or loses weight, get in touch with your vet immediately. As heart failure progresses, your little one may develop a swollen belly from fluid buildup in the body, fainting (from decreased blood flow to the brain), or color changes in their tongue or gums (from pink to bluish-grey).
NHV’s daily heart health supplements for dogs and cats help support your pet’s pulmonary and cardiovascular system, improve blood flow to the heart and alleviate inflammation.
Common Heart Issues in Dogs and Cats
Certain dog breeds like American Cocker Spaniels, Boston Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Daschunds, Maltese, Poodles, and Papillion, are prone to heart conditions like mitral valve dysplasia and dilated cardiomyopathy.
With cats, breeds like American and British Shorthairs, Main Coons, Persians, and Siamese cats have a higher than average incidence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

FAQ
What kind of heart issues can dogs or cats have?
Common heart conditions in dogs are mitral valve dysplasia and dilated cardiomyopathy. For some breeds like: American Cocker Spaniels, Boston Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Daschunds, Maltese, Poodles, and Papillion, they may be more susceptible to congenital heart issues (genetic).
With cats, the most common heart condition is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Certain purebred cats like the American and British Shorthairs, Main Coons, Persians, and Siamese may be especially prone to developing this type of heart disease.
What dog breeds are more prone to heart issues? Is there anything I can do to help?
Certain purebred dogs such as American Cocker Spaniels, Boston Terriers, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Chihuahuas, Daschunds, Maltese, Poodles, and Papillion, (this is not a comprehensive list) may have a higher than average incidence of congenital heart disease but it can happen to mixed breeds as well.
What is the most common heart disease in dogs?
Valvular heart disease (the failure of any heart valve) is the most common heart disorder in dogs and makes up for 75% of all canine heart conditions.
My cat with heart disease seems fine. Should I still be concerned?
Sadly, cats in the early stages of cardiomyopathy – and other heart-related issues may not present any symptoms until their condition is far more advanced. Because cats are so good at masking their pain, feline cardiovascular disease is often considered a ‘silent killer,’ so as a dedicated pawrent, you need to pay attention to changes in your little one’s behavior.
The two most significant symptoms of heart dysfunction in our feline friends are:
- Shortness of breath (from possible fluid buildup)
- Difficulty walking (weakness or paralysis of the hind legs)
If your cat is exhibiting any of the above symptoms or there is a sudden loss of appetite or changes in energy levels, please schedule an appointment with your vet immediately. Heart disease cannot be reversed but with the proper care and attention, your pet can still maintain a good quality of life with many fun-filled days ahead.
My pet is on medication, can I give them these supplements?
Our gentle yet effective health supplements can be used alone— as a safe alternative to traditional medicine, or alongside vet-prescribed medication as additional support. However, if in doubt, please consult your vet.
How much exercise is okay for my dog with heart issues?
For dogs with minor heart conditions, their activity level is generally not impacted to a large extent. However, it is important to pay attention to your pet’s behavior and not push them beyond their limits.
You want your dog to enjoy themselves and exercise their muscles without putting extra strain on the heart. Short walks are probably fine for pooches with mild to moderate heart disease, but too much exercise may worsen their existing condition or trigger an irregular heartbeat.
If your dog is noticeably slowing down on a walk, this may be too much exercise for them. Activities such as fetch, swimming, and chasing animals, should be eliminated completely.
