Description

Pancreatic and Bowel Support for Pets

Pancreatitis is a general term describing inflammation of the pancreas. This small pink gland lays to the right of your furkiddo's stomach and is connected to the small intestine. Its two main jobs are to release digestive enzymes for breaking down food and secreting insulin/glucagon to regulate blood sugar levels.

When the pancreas is inflamed, enzymes are released and can digest the pancreas itself, leading to severe discomfort and inflammation. Further inflammation may lead to more serious conditions like diabetes or inflammation of surrounding tissues which can affect your pet's digestive health and bowel function. Supporting your little one with natural supplements can help improve their symptoms and encourage healing.

Some signs of pancreatitis in dogs and cats are:

  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Weakness
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Dehydration

Additional Info: It may be difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of Pancreatitis in Dogs and Cats. Possible causes could be a high-fat diet (specific to dogs), trauma to the organ (eg. a car accident), certain types of medication, or stress from a chronic illness like hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, or inflammatory bowel disease (specific to cats). There are two types: acute pancreatitis (sudden onset) and chronic pancreatitis (develops gradually over time). To get your furkiddo tested for pancreatitis, contact your vet to run some diagnostic tests like a SPEC (specific pancreatic lipase test), ultrasound or a radiograph.

FAQ

What causes pancreatitis in dogs?

The causes of pancreatic inflammation are still largely unknown but some possible causes include: a high-fat diet (specific to dogs), trauma to the organ (like a car accident), certain types of medication or stress from a chronic illness like inflammatory bowel disease (specific to cats). Our all-natural supplements for pancreatitis in dogs and cats can help your pet manage their symptoms and add additional support alongside a vet care plan.

What do you feed a dog with pancreatitis?

According to NHV’s head veterinarian, Dr. Amanda, furkiddos recovering from pancreatitis should have a diet that is highly digestible. Overweight or obese dogs with hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides) should be fed a low-fat diet. If these conditions are not present, then a moderate-fat diet can be fed.

To ensure that your four-legged friend is receiving all of the vitamins and minerals they need for their unique health needs, you can ask your vet or order a personalized nutritional plan from Dr. Amanda.
