Snowshoe

Overview

Snowshoe cats could be nicknamed the Elizabeth Taylor of the cat world because of their dazzling looks and stunning blue eyes! When a Siamese breeder in Philadephia noticed a few kittens in her litter with white paws, she decided to cross them with a bi-color American Shorthair to create the Snowshoe cat! You can tell that you're looking at a Snowshoe from their signature white paws and inverted V pattern on their face, but this breed is relatively rare because of their complex coloring. Seal point and blue point are the most common colors for these medium sized (7-12 lb) kitties. Their coat is short and rarely sheds, so occasional grooming should do the trick!

Common Health Conditions & Recommendations for

Dental Disease:

is a health issue that the Snowshoe cat may be prone to developing, much like their Siamese ancestors. The bones in their jaw are often too small to comfortably accommodate all of their teeth, causing overcrowding. The dental overcrowding combined with a soft food diet may result in plaque and bacterial overgrowth in the mouth.

Personality

Personality

The playful and attention-seeking Snowshoe cat becomes strongly attached to one person but forms friendships with others. These kitties prefer to lead rather than follow. While this may not be for everyone, being 'owned' by a Snowshoe is something you have to experience to appreciate. And once you are 'owned' by a Snowshoe, you may never want to be without one! So if you want a feline companion with stunning baby blues, striking color points, and wants to be in charge, get your paws on a Snowshoe!
