Miniature Schnauzer

Overview

The Miniature Schnauzer originated in Germany during the 19th century as a farm dog able to rid the property of vermin. They descend from the slightly larger Standard Schnauzer, and have a very distinguished and handsome appearance. The coat typically comes in salt and pepper, or solid black. Mini Schauzers are clever, willing to please, highly social and have a mischievous streak! They have a playful personality, they are highly trainable and can do well in both country and city environments.

 

Common Health Conditions

• Mini Schnauzers may be susceptible to diabetes. The classic symptoms of diabetes in dogs are excessive thirst, increased urination, and weight loss despite normal or increased food consumption.
• The liver is vital to your Mini Schnauzer’s health. When functioning properly, it regulates blood sugar and filters toxic substances.
• Cushing’s disease is a condition where the body overproduces the cortisol steroid hormone.
