Overview
The Newfoundland originated in Canada and was bred as a working dog. They were used by fishermen for jobs ranging from pulling in nets and hauling wood from the forest. Also known as Newfies, they have a water-resistant coat, webbed feet, and tremendous strength and stamina, which makes them excellent dogs for water rescue and search jobs. They are calm, loyal, sweet-tempered and patient dogs and they are famous for their love of children, earning them the nickname as the “nanny dog”.
