The Affenpinscher, aka 'monkey terrier’, is a famously amusing toy breed from Germany that got its name because of its scruffy 'Ewok' or 'monkey-like’ appearance. In France, the breed is nicknamed the "Diablotin Moustachu" (mustached little devil), so it is no surprise that iconic French paintings like Renoir's 'Luncheon of the Boating Party' feature this quirky little dog. Generally weighing between 7-10 lbs, their coat comes in black and tan, silver-gray, red, or a combination of these colors, but the most popular is solid black. Originally bred to chase out rodents from kitchens, granaries, and stables, these days, the Affenpinscher is turning heads with their looks and personality instead!

Personality
The Affenpinscher is spunkier than most other toy breeds. Courageous, bold, and often high-strung, this little dog is a bit of a busybody and can be suspicious of strangers and try to appear intimidating by getting rowdy and out of control. This behavior might seem comical, but socialization is key to teaching them good manners! Their small stature makes them ideal apartment dogs, but due to their high intelligence, they need at least 2 brisk walks a day. Affenpinschers would do well with other pets, especially if raised with them, but like most terriers, this little pup is sensitive and does not take kindly to being teased, so they are happiest in a home without children.
